International sanctions compliance is a vital part of business operations in the aviation sector. Even though the task may look daunting at first sight, modern technology can both reduce the human workload and the risk of costly errors.
Staying compliant with complex, ever-changing sanctions regimes creates a challenge for aviation companies. These businesses are highly vulnerable to sanctions due to the global nature of their services and cross-border transactions that are subject to a range of international regulations. Air operators and aircraft management companies recognize that they have no choice but to take sanctions seriously, as non-compliance entails severe legal consequences.
Dynamic environment calls for automated compliance solutions
Unfortunately, there is no single global sanctions list, and that makes compliance much harder. Air operators need to follow multiple sanctions lists, each of which can be updated at any moment. At this point, relying on manual checks becomes impractical. It generates the risk of overlooking critical updates which can lead to hefty fines and reputational damage. Automating the screening process ensures compliance in real-time without the burden of manual oversight.
Finding efficiency with sanction screening tools
Sanctions screening tools have seen a significant rise in popularity over the past few years. These automated solutions provide a more efficient, accurate, and scalable way for operators to keep abreast of the dynamic regulatory environment.
The big advantage of such tools is the ability to screen against multiple sanctions lists at the same time. This enables a much faster and more efficient process to cross-check passengers, crew, and aircraft against the most up-to-date sanctions lists from different jurisdictions. The sanctions screening tools can quickly adapt to changes in sanctions regulations, ensuring that operators are always in line with the latest requirements.
Moreover, real-time alerts and reports from such tools allow operators to take immediate action if any sanctions-related risks are identified, protecting both their business operations and their reputation. Ultimately, automated sanctions screening tools not only enhance operational efficiency but also provide the peace of mind that comes with knowing that compliance is being handled effectively and proactively.

The PnrGo screening covers not only the full name—first, middle, and last—but also any aliases found in the sanctions records. The results are always shown as percentage scores, and account for partial matches to protect against typos, missing data, or transliteration issues (which are common when names are written in different alphabets). To provide even greater accuracy, PnrGo allows users to check additional information for matches—if available in the original sanction records—such as date of birth, place of birth, gender, nationality, and other details (e.g. job function). Such an approach helps to determine the most appropriate course of action for each business individually.
Customizable notifications let users set their preferences regarding the screening results. These results are color-coded to facilitate quick identification of risk levels and decision-making. Critical alerts (in red) and warning messages (in yellow) are sent at the percentage thresholds decided by each client. In other words, users choose if they want to receive a critical alert at 60%, 80% or 90%, having the option to focus only on high-risk matches or broader potential matches.
Moreover, user feedback is always carefully considered, and custom development is offered as an additional service. This opens the possibility of further adjustments in the tool, based on very specific business needs (e.g. Global Jet requested a customized order of the match results list).
Finally, any screening queries are sent only as far as PnrGo—they don’t directly access the original sanctions databases. This allows users to maintain higher data security and client privacy as it prevents tracking or monitoring by external entities, including public security agencies.
